NEW/FIRST VISIT

Soft comfortable clothing, free of zips or buttons. T-Shirt with shorts or joggers, are ideal.

It's also handy to have a pair of slip on footwear, like sliders. We have a strict no footwear on mats policy, but you'll need to pop on footwear to walk off mats or use the facilities.

Jiu-Jitsu is a close contact sport, so hygiene is SUPER important for everyone. Here are the top seven rules to help guide you.

1. SHOWER

Shower before and after training. Keep your breath fresh and preferably wear deodorant. Jiu-Jitsu hygiene products like Defence Soap, are available online.

2. WEAR FLIP FLOPS OR SLIDERS WHEN OFF THE MATS

Make sure your feet are clean before getting on the mats. When barefoot on the mats, the floor off the mats is “hot lava” don’t step on it without footwear. Keep your drinks bottle handy and close to the mats.

3. WASH ALL YOUR CLOTHING

Wash (and soak if needed) your Gi, No Gi and MMA wear after EVERY training session. Clean MMA equipment as per instructions given.

4. KEEP YOUR SKIN HEALTHY

Skin issues are a common part of martial arts, especially with close contact sport like Jiu-Jitsu. It’s important that you check your skin regularly for skin infections, like ringworm or staph infection. Treat immediately and only return once symptoms have gone. Wearing rash guards, shorts or spats under your Gi can help with this.

5. CUT YOUR NAILS

It’s really important to keep both your finger and toe nails short, to avoid scratching someone while rolling.

6. REMOVE JEWELLERY BEFORE TRAINING

For your safety and others, please remove rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets etc.

7. PROPERLY WRAP ANY CUTS WITH FINGER TAPE

An open wound could lead to a staph infection.
